Sharing is Comparing (Ecsite 2024)

Using data from three large-scale research initiatives (spanning cities and nations), this session shared insights to help the sector respond to and expand the use of visitor-related data. Spanning the U.S.A, U.K., and Germany, findings were shared from three projects, each of which seek to enhance institutional decision-making abilities while creating sector-level knowledge about who visits museums, what motivates them to attend and how they feel about their experiences. Using these data to share high-level trends, we will dove into analyses that we expected to be most interesting to the audience (e.g., addressing pre/post-pandemic comparisons). Comparisons across geographies can help us discuss the similarities and differences in our regions, while keeping in mind the context of each project, organization and country. Finally, we shared how individual institutions have responded to the data to demonstrate how museums can improve the visitor experience for the benefit of all. Conference session presented at the 2024 Ecsite Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
